Nick Roberts joined the Oil Barons coaching staff just in time for the start of the 2005-06 season.  Nick is a former Oil Baron himself, so it was a natural fit coming full circle and to stand behind the Oil Baron bench as an assistant coach.

The rugged former MOB captain is one of the team's youngest coaches ever, and knows what it takes to go the distance in the AJHL and Royal Bank Cup.  Nick was part of the MOB squad that won it all, National Champions in 2000.

As a player, Nick's skills were at the blueline where he grinded the opposition down, night in & night out, so bringing a strong defensive skillset on board was a no-brainer for Coach Thibodeau.  Of course Nick was a little worried with his new role.  "It was something new and something I hadn't done before, but the (other coaches) are great guys and have been very supportive.  I'm just hoping I'm going to be able to come back and teach what I learned in the past.  And I think it makes it a lot easier when you come back to the place that you played."

"There's no hiding the way I used to play.  I liked to play a tough game and I'd like to bring some of that experience to a lot of the guys here.  And it seems like we have a lot of guys who are willing to learn."
